About wavesdays
wavesdays is an independent directory of the surf, kite and windsurf scene on the coast of Portugal.
It exists to answer the questions a traveller actually asks: where do I take a lesson, where can I rent a board, what is the wave like at this beach, and what is on this week, from the pro contests to the parties, meetups and film nights.
How listings work
Every listing is placed by hand and appears on editorial merit. Businesses do not pay to be listed. wavesdays works with selected commercial partners, including the rental marketplace RentySurfy, and labels those relationships.
Spot guides
Guides are written from real knowledge where we have it, deepest on the Silver Coast around Peniche and Ericeira, and lightly researched elsewhere until we can do better. If a guide gets something wrong, tell us.
Editorial standards
The English edition is the source edition. We check location guides against direct experience where possible and use official organisers, transport operators, municipalities and the businesses themselves for facts that can change. Guides show a review date when one is available. Unconfirmed notes and draft research are not published. Commercial relationships never determine whether a business is listed and are disclosed where they occur.
Corrections
Surf conditions, access, prices and businesses change. Corrections sent to hello@wavesdays.com are reviewed before the relevant page is updated. Coverage grows region by region; until a page meets the same standard, it stays outside the search index.
FAQ
- Is wavesdays free to use?
- Yes. Browsing the events, spot guides and directory is free and there are no accounts.
- How are businesses chosen for the directory?
- Every listing is placed by hand on editorial merit. Businesses do not pay to be listed. Any commercial relationship with wavesdays is clearly disclosed on the relevant page.
- Which parts of the Portuguese coast does it cover?
- The whole mainland coast, in six regions from north to south: Norte, Centro, Silver Coast (Oeste), Lisbon and Cascais, Costa Vicentina, and the Algarve, plus the islands of Madeira and the Azores. Coverage is deepest on the Silver Coast and lighter elsewhere for now.
- Does it cover surf competitions or just the scene?
- Both. The events calendar has the pro contests (WSL and the Portuguese national circuit) alongside parties, meetups, festivals, gear swaps and film nights.
- What languages is the site in?
- English, Portuguese and German. English is the primary version; a page falls back to English where a translation is missing.
- How do I get my school, camp or shop listed?
- Email hello@wavesdays.com with your website. Listing is free and decided on merit.
- How reliable are the spot guides?
- Guides for Peniche and Ericeira are written from first-hand knowledge. Others are lightly researched and say so. Conditions, prices and event dates change, so check directly before relying on anything.
