A WSL Challenger Series event at Ribeira d'Ilhas, the reef at the heart of the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve, from 6 to 12 October. This is where surfers earn or lose their place on next year's Championship Tour, so the standard is high and the pressure shows. Grandstands and a village go up on the cliff above the point; free to watch.
