Esmoriz

A long beach with wedgy peaks over shifting sandbanks, plus steadier jetty breaks. Works on a west swell with an east wind, and is most often best in winter.
Esmoriz is a wind-exposed beach just north of Cortegaça, with wedgy A-frame peaks over sandbanks that keep reforming. Swell reaches it most of the year, but the banks come and go, so it works irregularly. The only consistent shapes tend to be at the jetty breaks, which suit intermediate and advanced surfers and are usually busier. The main beach offers plenty of waves for other levels on smaller days.
It wants a west swell with an east to east-south-east wind. Winter is the most reliable time, December especially. Even a light onshore breeze spoils it, so check the wind before you go.
