FozCamp Surf School
A family surf school at Foz do Arelho teaching from age four, with ocean surf lessons on the beach and kite lessons on the flat Óbidos lagoon behind it.
FozCamp is a surf camp and school in the village of Foz do Arelho, on the Silver Coast, a few minutes' walk from the beach and close to the Óbidos lagoon, the medieval town of Óbidos and the Berlengas islands. Peniche's breaks are about 20 minutes away and Nazaré about 30, and Lisbon airport is an hour's drive.
Surf school
Instructors are accredited by the Federação Portuguesa de Surf, and a van takes students to the best spots of the day, from Foz do Arelho's own beach break to the breaks around Peniche. Lessons last at least an hour and a half, as an introductory session or multi-day courses, one to one or in small groups, for children from age four and adults of any age. Boards and wetsuits are provided. The school is registered as a tourism activity operator (RNAAT 370/2014).
Kitesurfing
The Óbidos lagoon next to the beach is a large area of flat water with gusty wind; kite lessons run with a partner sailing school on the lagoon.
Staying here
The surf house is a four-room guesthouse, every room private with a double or two single beds and its own bathroom, with a fully equipped kitchen, a bar and lounge in a converted old wine cellar where barrels serve as tables, and wifi.
