Madeira Surf Camp

A surf camp and school at Praia da Alagoa in Porto da Cruz on Madeira's northeast coast, certified by the Portuguese Surf Federation and the tourism and port authorities.
Madeira Surf Camp was founded by two local surfers, Andre Rodrigues and Helder Vieira, in the heart of Porto da Cruz on Madeira's north-east coast, about 15 km from the airport and 30 km from Funchal. The village's black volcanic sand beaches, a few metres from the camp, are among the more approachable on an island that is mostly reef and point breaks, and coaches move to other north-coast spots when conditions call for it.
The camp
A guesthouse in a century-old house renovated in 2020, with en-suite rooms and a bunk-bed room, a shared fully equipped kitchen and living room, and a terrace with a solarium, outdoor shower and barbecue. Restaurants serving regional fish and seafood are close by.
Surf school
The camp bundles a certified surf school and equipment with the stay. Madeira's breaks are mostly over rock, so an honest level assessment matters here; the camp describes the village beaches as especially suitable for beginners.
Beyond the surf
Canyoning, trail running, mountain biking, paragliding, fishing and karting can be arranged.
