Peniche Surf Camp
A long-running beachfront camp at Casais do Baleal with its own surf centre, 200-plus rental boards and accommodation from hostel beds to ocean-view apartments.
Peniche Surf Camp was officially founded in 2004 by two surfers who have been in the sport and the surf industry since the 1980s. It sits on Avenida do Mar in Casais do Baleal, a short walk from several surf spots, so the instructors can pick the beach that suits the group's level on the day.
Lessons and levels
Group lessons for all ages and levels, from complete beginners to experienced surfers refining their technique, tailored to solo travellers, couples, families and larger groups.
Equipment
The surf centre has more than 200 boards for rent or sale, from soft-tops to epoxy and PU shortboards, funboards and longboards, plus Rip Curl wetsuits in every size, including children's suits from age two. It also does board repairs and sells used boards and wetsuits. It opens at sunrise and closes after sunset.
Staying here
Accommodation ranges from hostel-style rooms with two bunk beds, most with a private bathroom, to private en-suite rooms, studios, apartments and ocean-view apartments, all within walking distance of the beach. There is a shared kitchen, a rooftop terrace, a bar, yoga classes, massage, a photo service and transfers.
