Barbudas is a one-person label with its workshop in Vale da Telha, Aljezur, on the Costa Vicentina, close to Arrifana. Each board is designed and built by the same shaper from start to finish, tailored to the client and to the powerful, exposed waves of this coast.
What it makes
Custom surfboards, handplanes, skateboards and experimental gliding shapes, handcrafted with what the label describes as the best and most sustainable materials available.

Arrifana
A cliff-ringed bay near Aljezur, partly protected by a headland and an offshore rock stack. That shelter makes it one of the more forgiving spots on an otherwise heavy stretch of the west coast.

A north-west-facing beach below a small hamlet near Aljezur, with sand to the north, rocks to the south and a stream that shapes the banks. Few surfers even on good days, and wind is the main thing to watch.
