Carcavelos

Lisbon's home beach and the busiest wave in Portugal on a good day. A wide, forgiving beach break one stop from the city on the Cascais train line, with a fort at one end and peaks spread along the sand.
Carcavelos sits in a broad bay that filters out small and short-period swell, so it needs a solid west or south-west swell to come to life. When it does, it throws up punchy, rippable peaks all along the beach and draws a very large crowd from Lisbon and the whole Linha de Cascais.
It is a genuine all-levels wave: schools work the inside on the smaller days, and the outside banks can produce short, hollow sections on a bigger swell. Avoid it for a day or two after heavy rain.
