UpRise Surf School
A surf school and camp based in Peniche, with coaches certified by the Portuguese Surf Federation and physical-education degrees, teaching across the peninsula and up to Baleal and Areia Branca.
UpRise is a surf school based at its own surf camp in Peniche that works as a mobile school: rather than teaching from one fixed beach, it takes each lesson to whichever spot in Peniche, Baleal or Areia Branca suits the day. Between the three areas there are waves for every level, 365 days a year.
Lessons and levels
Small-group lessons for all ages, in several formats and at your own pace, plus courses, private lessons and surf guiding. Pupils go from their first wave up to advanced level. There are also summer camps for children and programmes aimed at university and Erasmus students.
Coaches
The coaches are certified by the Federação Portuguesa de Surf, hold degrees in physical education and have local experience.
Equipment and staying here
Board and wetsuit rental, and packs that add accommodation, from the surf camp to a hostel, a house or apartment, or a spot for a motorhome, with yoga and other activities as extras. Lessons in English, Portuguese and German.

Cantinho da Baia
The most sheltered corner of the Baleal bay, tucked against the Peniche side. Small, soft and forgiving, and the spot most Peniche schools use for a first lesson. Rarely flat.

Molhe Leste
The beach break next to the eastern breakwater at Peniche, just along from Supertubos. A more forgiving wave than its famous neighbour, and the spot the crowd moves to when Supertubos is out of control or blown out by the north wind.
