Reef break · Peniche, Silver Coast
Consolacao
A sheltered bay about 5 km south of Peniche with two faces: a sandy beach break for beginners and intermediates on the north side, and a long right-hand reef for experienced surfers on the south. The go-to when a north wind ruins everything else.
Consolacao is a village and cove about 5 km south of Peniche town, set in a bay that a rocky headland and an old sanatorium building shelter from the north. That shelter is the point: when the nortada is blowing Supertubos and Baleal to bits, Consolacao is often clean.
The north end is a forgiving sand beach that suits beginners and intermediates. The south end is a rocky reef that throws a long, workable right on a south-west swell and low to mid tide, and that side is for experienced surfers only: the entry and exit over the rocks are awkward, and there are urchins.
It is one of the more consistent spots on the central coast because it picks up swell from the south-west that the peninsula shades off elsewhere.
