Furadouro Surf Camp

A surf camp and school on the dune-backed beach at Furadouro near Ovar, one of the more consistent and uncrowded beach breaks on the northern coast.
Furadouro Surf Camp is on Praia do Furadouro in the municipality of Ovar, in the centre of Portugal, on an exposed, dependable stretch of dune-backed sand that is quieter than Espinho and Matosinhos up the coast. It runs a surf school and stand-up paddle alongside its accommodation.
Staying here
Every unit is rented whole, with no shared spaces, and all have free wifi. There are two studios, two family studios and a basement apartment with a terrace; a renovated single-storey old house with three bedrooms and a courtyard; and three older apartments near the beach, in the part of town with the nightlife. All of it is registered with Turismo de Portugal.
The beach
Furadouro faces the open Atlantic and picks up plenty of swell, with cold water year-round, so a good wetsuit matters even in summer.
