Surfaventura
Matosinhos' longest-running surf school, on the city beach since 2003 and a metro ride from central Porto, with year-round group and private lessons and gear rental.
Surfaventura has run on Praia de Matosinhos since 2003, about 200 metres north of the anemone roundabout on Avenida General Norton de Matos. Group lessons take four to six people; private lessons take one to three. Teaching covers beginner and intermediate levels, with advanced coaching and surf trips to nearby beaches for surfers who already stand up. Boards, wetsuits and paddles rent by the session, and the school also runs SUP and bodyboard lessons, holiday camps and group bookings. Open all year, roughly 10am to sunset. Lessons in Portuguese, English and French.

A beach break just north of Leixões harbour, beside Álvaro Siza's famous tidal pools. Exposed to every west swell, with barrels on offshore mornings and a hard paddle when it is big.
